A Message from the Town Mayor
Mayor Malcolm Alexander
Councillor Malcolm Alexander's Term of Office comes to an end in May and reflects back on the past year in a message to all.

"It has been a great honour to serve the town of Ware this civic year as its Mayor. By the time my term of office ends in May I shall have represented the town on more than 139 occasions ranging from the Official Opening of the Hertford County Hospital to visits to OAP homes in Ware on New Year’s day. As Mayor I preside over all meetings of the Council and sit on all the Council’s Committees—see below for details of these. A great many issues have been debated including:

  • Fletcher’s Barn (named after the late and much-loved Town Clerk, John Fletcher) - a new community building in the grounds of the Priory. Work on this exciting project has now started and the building should be ready by the end of 2006 - something for Ware which we can all be proud of.
  • CCTV for the Town Centre - 6 cameras are due to be installed during the summer - a very positive step forward for the town’s security and well-being.
  • Stansted Airport - The Town Council sent a letter of objection to BAA’s consultations "Stansted Airport Interim Master Plan" and "Growing Stansted Airport on the Existing Runway". Strong concerns have also been expressed re overflying of the town and the Town Council co-hosted a public meeting on 30th March.
  • 201 planning applications were considered by the Town Council's Planning Committee.
  • Place House - after long and protracted negotiations the Town Council has, regrettably, been unable to reach agreement on a new lease with the landlord, Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust.
  • A skateboard park for Ware - an enthusiastic steering committee has been set up to progress this. A full report of the year’s activities will be presented at the Annual Town Meeting on 26th April. I would like to thank all those who have supported my fund raising activities and am delighted to say that over £6,000 has been raised for my charities - Ware & District Scouts & Guides & The North & East Herts Branch of The National Osteoporosis Society. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to my fellow councillors for all their hard work and support during the year." Councillor Malcolm Alexander
