Music will be to the fore at this year's Ware Dickensian Evening which will take place on Friday the 1st December. The organisers are hoping to recreate the success of the earlier Dickensian evenings that many remember.
Four bands – featuring jazz, swing, sambas and rock – will play in different parts of the town and more music will come from a traditional barrel organ, Salvation Army and church choirs and the Hertfordshire Holly dancers.
Bookings are now coming thick and fast from local organizations and charities for stalls in Tudor Square and the High Street.
There will be a Hertfordshire W.I. market of produce and food in the Priory, craft markets in the Drill Hall and Place House, and a Christmas tree display in Leaside Church. More stalls are planned inside St. Mary’s Church and narrow boats on the river will be lit up for the evening.
Organisers Keith Batchelor and David Perman say the bookings this year are well up on previous years.
"As well as the music, there is an amazing variety of food being planned," said David, "toffee apples, hot dogs, soup, roast chestnuts and a pig roast. There will also be two shop window displays and many shops in Ware will open that evening and have special offers."
"We are also hoping to offer prizes to those wearing the most imaginative Dickensian dress."
The Ware Dickensian Evening will run from 6 to 9 pm on Friday 1st December 2006. Further information from Keith Batchelor (01920 462241) or David Perman (01920 467868).
