Dickensian Evening 2007 - Road Closure Notice
Published:3 Dec 2007
Motorists who travel through Ware will have to seek alternative routes as the Ware Dickensian Evening takes over the High Street, Amwell End and Baldock Street.
Diversions will be in place from 6.30–10.30 pm and includes Amwell End, the High Street and Baldock Street. All off these roads will be closed to traffic. You have been warned.
Traffic will be diverted up Kingsway and towards New Road. There will be no access to the Bourne from Wadesmill Road. In the opposite direction, traffic will be diverted up New Road and into Collett Road, exiting through the Bourne.
This is a once in a year event and the Town Centre Partnership would like to apologise in advance to any residents who are affected by the increased traffic.
Motorists who usually use Ware as a "cut-thru" are advised to use the A10 bypass on this evening (and every evening afterwards!)
The Ware Dickensian Evening on Friday 7th December returns to the original popular format of taking over the entire town.
Last year's event attracted more than 5,000 people but there were concerns over safety.
This year will be bigger and safer than ever – with the added attraction of the roads being closed.
So this year Amwell End, Baldock Street, Church Street and the High Street are being closed from 6.30pm. and traffic diversions will be in place.
The Town Centre Partnership are looking for volunteers to help steward the event. Contact the Town Centre partnership if you would like more information about volunteering.
At this years Dickensian evening, local organizations and charities will have stalls in the High Street and Tudor Square, where bands and carol singers will perform.
There will be Craft Fairs in the Drill Hall and Place House, a WI Market in the Priory, a Christmas Tree Festival in Leaside Church, Refreshments in St. Mary’s Church and Santa’s Grotto in Suckling’s Yard, Church Street, as well as jazz, swing and samba bands, Hertfordshire Holly will be performing traditional dances.
This year, for the first time, there will be children’s rides and funfair throughout Amwell End.
