I noticed that they are shut for a refurbishment, does anyone know when it re-opens?

don't know how true this is but I've been told recently that the owners are shutting up shop and concentrating on their other restaurant in Brookmans Park. If this does pan out we'll have a town full of eateries but no sit down Chinese restaurant,

Probably just chinese whispers :D I think it is no more than a refurb.

I had heard that the owners had 2 shops and were going to just concentrate on the other one, but I would not like to say how true that is. The person who told me this, frequented China Red a lot, also using their car park for personal parking, is concerned that this arrangement will be coming to an end, but I don't think there was anything known for sure at that point, which was a few weeks ago.

Neither Ware nor Hertford have a Chinese restaurant now, following the closure of Peking House at the weekend.

I'm not aware of either restaurant being short of customers. Peking House was very popular. Businesses close for a variety of reasons, not just lack of custom.

I see there is a planning application up to convert from restaurant to hotel/boutique bar (whatever that is).
A pity, it was one of my favourite places to eat.
