I see the Worpell is having a facelift, and is now also named "The Maltings".
Always think it's a bit sad when pubs get renamed.

Yes, but it used to be "The New Rose and Crown"

Am I right that there were two Rose and crowns on Watton Road?treacleminer wrote:Yes, but it used to be "The New Rose and Crown"

Yes, the "old" Rose and Crown is at the junction with Fanshawe Crescent and the 395 used to terminate just past it.Andy B wrote:Am I right that there were two Rose and crowns on Watton Road?treacleminer wrote:Yes, but it used to be "The New Rose and Crown"

I think it looks fantastic and a great name that fits Ware perfectly!
Re: Wot no Worpell
I noticed this today on an amble up to Asda. It looks much better and more inviting.
Re: Wot no Worpell
Yes, it certainly looks a lot less tired, and you're right, they've chosen a very appropriate name.

When Heather + Terry took over from George + Pat a couple of years ago they thought the name was 'daft' despite me explaining the reasons why ie 2 rose n crowns within spitting distance. At some stage the interior will also get a slight makeover (nothing drastic) but, more to the point, the ale is still excellent; IPA, Abbot + Doom or Pride.
The new name is of course highly appropriate and I'm surprised no one's thought of it before.

Four great beers and as I was looking for a watering hole to use to meet up with a few old friends I think I have found it, just have to sort a date now!kevin phillips bong wrote:When Heather + Terry took over from George + Pat a couple of years ago they thought the name was 'daft' despite me explaining the reasons why ie 2 rose n crowns within spitting distance.
