DVLA at work

Post by Scottman »

Interested to see two Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency flat bed lorries lifting (presumably) unlicensed vehicles from Gladstone Road this afternoon.

Given the significant increase in unlicensed vehicles following dropping the on windscreen tax disc a couple of years ago, it was good
to see they actually do police the situation. Even in side roads.

I thought it was stupid to drop the tax disc, saving a few pence per car, but leading to (I read somewhere) a 10% increase in non-payment of licence fees. The cost of this, plus that of removing untax cars, probably more than makes up for this. I suppose if the car is not claimed, or the fine and costs are not paid, then the DVLA can sell the car. People have had fair warning. I have seen several cars parked around the town with notices on the windscreen saying 'tax not paid'. I saw one down The Bourne/Collett Road, for example. That car has now gone (or its tax has been paid).

Crushed if not insured not sure about non taxed.

With the massive amount of APNR cameras around the Tax disc is pretty meaningless.
Nobody patrols checking discs (wardens are only interested in parking fines)
