Oyster v one day travelcard

Post by Mel »

I'm after a bit of advice please, can any of you rail commuters tell me if it's cheaper to use a one day travel card as opposed to a return rail ticket to Liverpool Street then use an Oyster card for a trip to the Embankment? We're going up for a day and need to get from Liverpool street to the Embankment pier, thanks a lot.

Depends what time you are going. If I only use the Tube once, then I find that its cheaper to get a Return to London (Liverpool Street ot Tottenham Hale) and then use the Tube.

It also depends if you have any Railcards, we have a "Network Railcard" but when that expires we'll get the "Two Together Railcard". Very handy if you travel with someone else. You get great discounts (£7.90 discount on a return to Liverpool Street, when 2 travel together).

It's easier to heck the prices for yourself on:

We need to get the 9:45 am train on a Tuesday morning. I'll have to check the prices ( :D ) again and try and work out how much the tube would cost on our Oyster cards, that is if we've got enough on there! Thanks.

£11.60 Return from Ware to Liverpool Street
+
£2.30 + £2.30 for Tube (you can use any ContactLess Bank Card to pay instead of Oyster...same price, just make sure you use the same card)
= £16.20

or

TravelCard = £17.30

And if you travel a few time a year with the same person, I recommend a "Two Together Railcard". I think it's £30/year but you would save nearly £12 on 2x TravelCards to London.
