Footpaths are for Pedestrians
Footpaths are for Pedestrians
Good news that the police are targeting car drivers who park on and block footpaths. Surely it is also time to target those inconsiderate cyclists who belt along footpaths without any consideration for pedestrians. One has only to try to cross the river bridge in Ware or the entrance to Bircherley Green in Hertford to be aware of the dangers that these people cause here and throughout our local area.
Re: Footpaths are for Pedestrians
I don't necessarily disagree with you, having to negotiate narrow pavements with a buggy is not always easy, but I do also think that sometimes it is nigh on impossible not to block a pedestrian's path. If people didn't park on pavements in some places in Ware or Hertford then roads would be blocked, no access for lorries or emergency vehicles or refuse lorries. Our towns were not designed for cars, but even more worrying to me are the new developments that have insufficient dedicated parking and narrow access roads; also inconsiderate drivers that drive too fast in residential roads where pedestrians have no choice but to walk in the road. There is no easy answer unfortunately - unless we all change our mode of transport!
Re: Footpaths are for Pedestrians
You don't mention cyclists, just try waiting for a bus at Bircherley Green, Hertford and avoiding the hairbrained cyclists who speed down the slope on the footpath from Railway Street and then on between Boots and Waitrose. I have seen many near misses but they seem to think it is their right to ride!
Re: Footpaths are for Pedestrians
There are bad cyclists just as there are bad motorists, or alternatively- inconsiderate people who drive and/or ride bikes. That doesn't mean that all cyclists or all motorists are bad. It just means that some people are inconsiderate.jasmine98 wrote:You don't mention cyclists, just try waiting for a bus at Bircherley Green, Hertford and avoiding the hairbrained cyclists who speed down the slope on the footpath from Railway Street and then on between Boots and Waitrose. Daily Mail 22 Jan had this as an article

Ok this is a trial being conducted in Camden but exactly like the recent police suggestion "If you are caught with child porn images we may not prosecute you as a paedophile " where reason is like of manpower and /or jails are already full
Same will apply to the cyclist on pavements regarding manpower issue

Re: Footpaths are for Pedestrians
I recall when I was a boy that riding on the road was a pleasure after taking my cycling proficiency test lol! The roads are too dangerous and busy for cyclists now but equally the pavements aren't the place.
If we could start again then we'd build proper cycle lanes. There's just too many people in this country all leading their lives at speed
