Ware’s Improv drama group launches at the Arts Centre 11 MAY 2016

Ware’s Improv drama group launches at the Arts Centre

Ware’s newest drama group launches tomorrow evening at the Ware Arts Centre (Thursday 12 May) focussing almost exclusively on the art of Improvisation.

The aim of the group is to bring people together in an informal and relaxed setting and to explore different themes and issues in a totally unscripted and honest fashion.

The Ware Improv Society sessions will be run by James Frecknall, Director of local Drama in Education company Big Box Education.

James is a qualified teacher and drama practitioner who has written, directed and performed in productions all over the UK, most recently having an original play performed at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Having studied Drama and Education at Cambridge University, he spent 10 years teaching in London before moving to Ware last autumn.

"One of the great things about improvisation is the fact that one can never actually be said to have mastered it," he says. "You are at the whim of the other people’s ideas in your group and have to react differently each time anything is said - that is why it is the perfect leveller. From the most seasoned performer through to the complete beginner, everyone is welcome in Ware Improv Society."

Every Thursday
Ware Improve is held at the Ware Arts Centre in Kibes Lane. It takes place every Thursday from 7.00pm – 8.30pm. Cost: £3 a session

This is one of a few new projects for James, and he is excited about the prospect of working with new people in this unique historic building. He explains, “Improv will mean different things to different people, but all will be connected by the unique and shared experience of inventing a story or situation and running with it to see where it goes. Where else in life can you simply allow yourself to ‘play something out’ and see what happens?”
