MP to stand down at next election

Monday 9 September 2019

Hertford & Stortford MP Mark Prisk is to stand down  at the next election.

In a letter to constituency chairman Alex Curtis, Mr.Prisk wrote: "I have decided not to seek re-election at the coming General Election. This has been a difficult decision, but I have always believed that if you seek election it must be whole hearted and that you should be committed to serve a whole five year parliament. I cannot make that committment".

"This decision is personal  and is not in reaction to Brexit"

"I do, however, lament the wider decline in public discourse and the rise of narrow ideology over pragmatic, common sense."

Mark Prisk has been MP for Hertford & Stortford for 18 years, taking over the seat from Bowen Wells in 2001. He has served as Minister of State for Housing and Local Government as well as Shadow Minister for Business and Enterprise.

A frequent critic of local train operating companies, Mr.Prisk has also supported local campaigns against quarrying in Bengeo and in  support of improving healthcare.
