Ware's Dickensian Evening, the town's annual festive street party takes place this Friday, 6 December 2019 celebrating 25 years since the first event.
As with previous years, where it is estimated more than 10,000 people attended the event, roads in the town centre will be closed and traffic diversions will be in place.
Amwell End, High Street, Baldock Street, Church Street, East Street and West Street will be closed to traffic from 6.00pm - 10.00 pm
The Ware Dickensian Evening starts at 6.30pm, 30 minutes after the road closures to allow for the stalls to set-up.
Traffic diversion signs and steards will be in place at the closure barriers to assist emergency vehicles and residents affected by the closed streets. All public car parks (except for the Library car park) will be available throughout the evening and parking in the town will be free parking from the early evening.
If you have any special requirements which may be affected by the road closures, please let the organisers know in advance by email email@example.com.
The main celebrations will begin at 7pm when the Mayor, Councillor Nina Villa, hailed by the Ware Town Crier, turns on the lights on the mighty horse-chestnut in Tudor Square with Christmas music by Hertford Regional College Performers.
The town’s charities and clubs have booked stalls in Tudor Square.
Many bands, carol singers, and children’s roundabouts will all add to the fun in Tudor Square, the High Street and Amwell End, as well as six indoor venues and many of the town’s shops open for the evening and serving goodies.
Other bands in the town include the popular Garden City Samba Band (7:40pm 9.00pm) and Ware Brass will perform in the Tudor Square (8.00pm - 9.00pm).

Most shops will have decorated their windows to make the whole town look festive. As part of their certificate course, students from Hertford Regional College have also designed this year's posters.
The Students from the Uniformed Public Services Course will be on duty to assist us in marshalling the event alongside our own volunteers.
The Ware Dickensian Evening costs over £8000 to put on but would be much higher if it were not for the efforts of the many volunteers and Sponsors: Ware Town Council, Network Housing Association, East Herts Council. This year we received an HCC Locality grant for costumes for Dickensian Street Theatre and many of the town's pubs and businesses have made donations.
The event is the year’s biggest fundraiser for many community groups so we hope our public will come out and support them on the night!
The Dickensian Programme is available here on Ware Online. You will also be able to pick them in local pubs and shops around town as well.
