I started to look into having It brought up to code but it meant the whole fireplace coming out and some brickwork done in the cavity behind it, we'd just decorated so decided to leave it in place as a nice feature to look at!! Luckily we're not relying on it for heat.

I used a company called Taylor Heating in Stanstead Abbots a couple of years ago - had found it hard to find anyone that would look at gas fires, the safety regulations around gas fires are really strict. I always used him to do the yearly service on my boiler but when I rung him last week there is a message saying he is no longer in business and recommending J&R Plumbing on 07769111140.
Haven't rung them yet but probably will as its a recommendation.

I can recommend Oakes Restoration in Brickenden just outside Hertford. Last year he beautifully restored two old chairs for me, I cant say he'll be the cheapest you find but it certainly paid to spend the bit extra, he brought back to life two old chairs that were my great grandmas.
