Although the towpath from the Gauge House towards Hartham is a sealed tarmac surface, from memory the stretch from Ware lock to the Gauge House was only ever a gravel surface. You're right - it is the Roebuck Hotel. Just looked on Google street view. If you follow up Baldock Street/Wadesmill road, the images are dated June 2017 and show the nearly completed care home. Fire Brigade have concluded the fire was caused by an electrical fault. Demolition now scheduled to start next week. Star Street will remain closed for another 2-3 weeks until demolition is complete.

Signs are up at the roundabout at the edge of Stevenage stating that Hertford Road (which joins the A602 at the roundabout) and the cycle paths that go under the subways are closed from Monday 11th. The subways have to be relocated for the new junction, so I guess they are starting with this first. ...
