why do you suppose anyone gives a toss
Exactly.

We live in an area that consistantly returns a Conservative MP and elects a Conservative council.

The thought that anyone would even think for a second that people give a monkeys about people in our area worse off then themselves is laughable.

Well I hope none of you Ware socialists are guilty of being hypocritical and caught shopping in any establishment that pays less than the living wage like Tesco or Asda...this would be a dreadful slight on your moral superiority over the evil population of Ware.

If you could wear one of these t-shirts, it would be most helpful so as we can all help you resist using any of the above shops. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politic ... hirts.html

Don't worry about where the t-shirts came from, the moral message means it outweighs the wages issue on this one!!

I think I'd be very wary of using the Daily Torygraph as a source of information. It is as biased and as unreliable as the Daily Heil. How does the cost of living in Nicaragua compare to the UK's - even presuming the paper is correct (which I have severe doubts about).

So far as I can see the min wage for such workers in Haiti is $5 a day - if that is Haitian Dollars it's about 6p.

According to the Fair Wage site a fair wage in Nicaragua would be about £4 a day

Sorry I should have realised my posting of a telegraph link would have given people the ideal opportunity to change the subject.

Going back to my question..........

I presume none of you will be using any of the supermarkets in town that don't pay the living wage? Surely this would be incredibly hypocritical of you?

Well I've just walked down to Tesco with the push chair for a few bits.
But I dropped in the butchers for meat and the local green grocers for veg and the local shop for bread.
Popping to Lidl on the motorbike with my 1 year old grandson wasn't that practical.
But will do an Aldi shop on Saturday in Hatfield.

Having principles doesn't mean you have to be a lunatic it just means caring enough to be informed and making choices.
Like paying a bit more to buy online and avoid using Amazon.

Wow..what a change of tune from the start of this thread!

Principles are fine...moralising about what other people should do is another thing

Pat-H
I think people should consider more than just the price tag and convenience when shopping.

when doing something different yourself

I guess you missed that I said people should consider their shopping choice. I never stated what people should or shouldn't do.
Just be informed and make considered choices.
So I do just what I said. I make considered choices. I just ask that others do as well. I don't tell or demand just ask.

Ok, thank you for recommending we "consider" shopping at a superstore in another town because of a moral issue you raised while you continue to shop locally for convenience.

I guess all us Evil Tories in Ware have a lot to learn before we can scramble up the moral mountain to join you and The Masked Woler for a glass of Socialist Prosecco at the summit.

But we shall keep trying to improve the way we live to match your high standards.

Tories scrambling up the moral mountain. More like sliding down on the backs of the poor. But isn't the place of the lower classes to act as the grease for those on top.

And I don't subscribe to the view that all Tories are evil. The ones at the top who know exactly the cost in lives and misery maybe but the vast majority are just led long by the press. Ignorance isn't evil.
