50 more houses, is Park Road not busy enough ?

A dead-end road, grid locked traffic at certain times of the day, numerous near accidents, a new supermarket, additional housing, an expanding multi-national company, two expanding schools, a nursery, numerous residential properties, free parking on the side of the road, how much more can Park Road take ?

Park Road is already struggling to cope and whilst Chauncy School is a great educational establishment should selling playing fields for 50 affordable homes that will mean more vehicles and more congestion for the local community really be the way to raise money ?

Not quite! Chauncy are selling off a piece of land that borders on to Park Road - between the swimming pool and Trapstyle Road. This is at the bottom of the hill below the playing field and not (as far as I know) ever used for sport.

The money raised will fund the building of a new sports hall at the back of the school site.

There is some more information on this thread http://wareonline.co.uk/discussion/view ... f=32&t=310 although don't be confused by discussion about the unrelated highway improvements for the A10/A602 junction.

Chauncy newsletter has a bit more information http://chauncyschool.com/wp-content/upl ... -FINAL.pdf

Suggest you take a look at google earth and you will see the pitches marked out, this area has also be used by local community clubs

The land used to be used by Ware Lions, but has not been used by anybody for several years.

Chauncy School have sold off “green space” sports field land to property developers. This development will consist of 50 dwellings with direct vehicular access to Park Road between 2 existing junctions – Wengeo Lane and the GSK site entrance

Chauncy claim this will be an exciting environmental and community success!

However consider the following.

Park Road has an Asda superstore, 2 huge GSK sites, 2 nurseries, 1 junior and a large senior school on a short stretch of single carriage way in a market town.

Park Road has been subject to massive over-development and supports the daily transit of approx. 1000 cars, delivery vans and juggernaut delivery lorries business and residential vehicles

Park road is already a heavily congested and dangerous road which is used by over 1000 school students, GSK employees, pedestrians and visitors every day.

Park Road has a pitiful lack of off-road parking to accommodate its daily over-subscribed traffic volume.

Park road is dangerous and presents a serious health and safety risk to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike. The road is often narrowed down to the width of a single vehicle especially during the school run. Emergency services vehicles have restricted access at certain times of the day in Park Road. Accidents have already occurred and the next could be serious.

The Chauncy claim of a "redundant" piece of school playing field is a lie because it was used by ware lions for quiet a while and the pitches are obviously evident on the same Google Earth shot which appears in their glossy "development" brochure. oh dear what an own goal!

This development must be stopped and an alternative proposal sought.

The Google Earth picture is many years old.

Trinity School is still there as is Western House.
The flats by the station are not built.

Interesting to see the town how it was in the past.

What sort of alternative proposal are you seeking?
An alternative funding proposal to allow the school to build their new facilities or a different proposal for the development?

It could be worse. You could have 200 dwellings in 3 story flats.

let them build 200 flats near your house then :D ?

seriously, ware is far to overdeveloped currently. the infrastructure can't support the growth on many levels. everybody wants to see communal facilities like a sports hall but at what cost to existing residents who have to live in a part of ware that has a been turned into an industrial park.

I suggest you try driving down it when the school run is on for a better perspective
