I notice that Chauncy School have again been inviting parents to comment directly on the planning applications. As a wider community, I'd invite WOL people to comment in this public process.

There are two separate planning processes on which you can feedback.

Here's the link on the housing element:

Here's the one for the sports hall:

so who was glued to the webcam of the meeting?

Would love to know what the last minute info was sent to the Councillors and how that was allowed to be unopposed! I think that will be published in the minutes of the meeting.

BUT look forward to using the sports hall for one of my local clubs when it opens!

The man from delmonte says "yes"

The Mercury report of the meeting is ludicrously biased and antagonistic. It claims the very small number of complaining local residents were ignored, when in fact there has been a protracted process which has examined their claims many times and rejected them. It implies the sports hall will be some kind of tower block rather than an inobtrusive building. Congratulations to the Council on taking a decision of great benefit to Ware.

From the Mercury:
"The public gallery was completely filled by protesters"

Not really... bearing in mind there were people also in the gallery who supported it, as well as others there for the other planning matters under discussion. If you want to see an example of real opposition to a scheme, then the recent application to build in Braughing had not only the council chamber filled (inc many standing), but the foyer full to bursting with the overflow.

I also don't think residents concerns were ignored during the discussions - there was an extended discussion of the issues raised.

There were many comments made during the discussion/representations that went unopposed, but that's the way the process works - once the applicant and opposers have made their three minute statements, they have to stay silent and let the process happen - even if they feel they could clarify a question raised or refute a statement made.

I was not aware that the sports hall was "controversial", I was under the impression it was just the houses being opposed. I hadn't seen any opposition to the hall at all, in fact most seemed in favour.

So far as the playing fields are concerned my view is that it is a moot point - once the District Plan is implemented and we have to find spaces for the hundreds (or thousands) of extra children then Chauncy (and Presdales) will have to expand massively, so they will all disappear anyway.

I don't believe any new schools will be build, bear in mind the one which would have been right in the proposed development area has been closed and the land sold off for more houses.

There was nothing controversial about any of the development. there were a couple of people who managed to raise a huge fuss and everything they complained about was disproved at every stage.

Nothing controversial to you, maybe, but clearly it was to some. Remember, we all have a different perspective. To the people who raised "a huge fuss", it probably does feel significant, and I doubt they believed that they were wrong. And disagreement is a common part of discussion & consultation.

Won't be the first time that people have had what are, to them, valid concerns which may end up proving to be groundless. Won't stop people having these concerns.

There were never more than a tiny handful of objectors and all of their objections were considered at length including by civil servants for the Secretary of State and found to be completely groundless. So, no, it wasn't controversial despite the fact that a couple of nimbys objected.

I find the whole NIMBY thing strange, does anyone actually want developments on their doorstep?

Those called NIMBYs don't, and those doing the calling are simply trying to make sure the building takes place near the NIMBYs i.e. away from them.

People really seem to think that the vast developments going on (and planned) around the town won't affect them so long as they are not nearby - this is a mistake.
