Sainsbury's Local

Post by Steve »

Yay, Sainsbury's are coming to Ware.

A planning application has been submitted for a Sainsbury's Local on the old Co_op dairy site at the corner of Star Street and Bowling Road.

This area has not looked good since the dairy moved out and the competition can only be good. :D

Actually, I've just realised the shop already has planning permission and the application is just for signage.

lets hope they are cheaper than Spar ! find that shop quite expensive compares to others, also i fear for the other shop down Star Street ' star foods' or whatever it is, they ain't going to like a Sainsbury's near them ;)

From the Mercury website. They will knock down most of the site, but retain the wall with the Co-op Dairy sign. Due to open in 2015.

The last communication I had with them (Nov 14), it was on track to open in June 2015. They are waiting for the shell of the building tobe completed and handed over.

Not so good - I heard a terrible rumour that the protected Cooperative Bakery Mosaic is to remain, but it'll be covered over by the Sainsbury signage - so we'll not see it.
Surely a joke by the planners, but rumour busters... post what you know.

Not a rumour I'm afraid, a fact.
This was in the original application documents.

No, it was objected to by a number of people, but as usual the planners overruled the objections. Yet another example of Ware being let down by EHDC :(

The only valid grounds for objection is if it contravenes local planning policy. It doesn't matter how many people object.
