Typical stupid response; calling people who disagree with you "thick".

I was merely pointing out how someone on this thread had not quite managed to pick up the point I was making how certain people blame "the tories" for everything from every cut to every service to bad weather. (hopefully that spells out the rather obvious joke to him and you)

And I was not suggesting you are thick at all...just a humourless bore.

Something smells here big time and I don't mean comrade corbyn/miss demay.
While there is a 'strange' set up between school/ehdc/pool its not a question of cuts. ehdc are going to waste 20+ million !!!!!!! on Stortford/hertford pools so have the money its just they of course never ever spend it in SG12. The land right next door to the pool has been sold for housing, so who's trousered the money for that. Ware's magnificent lido was refurbished by Glaxo (many thanks) for 300K so what on earth are ehdc going to spend 20 million on, and then just to say oh dear we can't afford to keep Fanshawe pool open?!?!
Just like how they treated The Southern Maltings this stinks, stinks, stinks and the councillors/officials involved should hang their heads in shame.

The minutes and webast of the meeting that resulted in this decision are publicly available on the EHDC website, as are all the reports that informed that decision. As I understand it, the saving will go towards the provision of a newly built leisure centre to replace Grange Paddocks in Bishop's Stortford, the extension and refurbishment of Hartham Leisure Centre in Hertford, and investment at Ward Freman in Buntingford to upgrade the centre with the option of a gym. The total investment in these three facilities is £30m.

The Chauncy Community Partnership, to fund development of the school sports hall, which opened in February, and 8 new classrooms.

Don't be too hard on EHDC they are still working on increasing their £120million contingency fund so money must be tight.

Fanshaw is pretty much a foregone conclusion. And its demise will ultimately have been planned.

Lack of investment has ensured its tired and dated and users vote with their feet and go elsewhere. Attendance drops so income drops so delaying investment and the spiral continues on down.

Its just a waiting game. At best a concerted local effort could stall the inevitable but this will come back round again with an even older, more tired and less used facility back under review.

The Tory aim is a minimal state and swimming pools are going to go before the inevitable key services.

How many kids in the future will get to learn how to swim if this goes ?. Going to Hartham for a lessons or a swim is not an option for schools or for that matter a lot of adults.

Consultation announced:

"A pair of swimming pools in East Hertfordshire could be saved from closure after the council agreed to hold public consultations on their futures."

There's a long way to go yet. The Council have admitted that there is no possibility the capacity from Fanshawe and the other pool will be made u in the ones that stay open, but they don't care. All that would be needed to stop this would be for the Tory Party to have an internal meeting and say they weren't going to do it - they control all levels of government in this area after all. But they don;t support public services, they want to be a profit centre for businesses instead.

It's at the top of their home page of their website. Hardly "quietly".
