There seems to be elections coming up for East Herts District Council and for all the towns and parish councils in the area.

So in Ware we have
WTC Ware-Trinity, Steve Reed (cons), Sean Shaw (LibDem), Nina Villa (cons)
WTC Ware-St Marys, Martin Butcher (Green), Ian Kemp (Cons)

WTC Ware-Chadwell: 2 seats from Alex Curtis (cons), Mark Pope (cons), Josh Dean (Labour)
WTC Ware-Christchurch: 3 seats from Phyllis Ballam (cons), Rishi Fernando (cons), Jonathan Kaye (cons), Victoria Shaw (Libdem)

Wareside, Thundridge, GT Amwell are unopposed and essentially unchanged.

EHDC elections are bigger but of note:-
- Ware-Trinity has one candidate standing as an Independent but who is actually allegedly from extreme-right Britain First. Somebody has done a leaflet drop of the whole of the Trinity Ward over the weekend with an Anti-Britain First leaflet.
- Alex Curtis is standing for Gt Amwell against Catherine Beaujeux (LibDem)
- Of the previous Ware councillors, outgoing Mayor David Oldridge is not standing. Joanne Belsey is not standing, Phyllis Ballam has dropped out of EHDC and David Andrews has reverted to EHDC Thundridge&Standon and is not standing at Parish level. None of the resignations from the last couple of years have returned so that's goodbye to the Standleys and Jeanette Taylor.

We've got local elections in under a week's time. And EU elections in under 4 weeks.

Is anything happening in Ware?

The only leaflets I've had through my door are (Britain First) Independent and a protest at about (Britain First). The only campaigner I've actually seen was a small group of Tories.

We've not seen anyone nor had anything through the door except the polling cards. That's Christchurch ward

The Green Party is standing candidates but not doing a lot of campaigning as we have very little money for leaflets, and not that many members to take to the streets. Looking at the results and the number of people who voted I wonder how many of those eligible to vote actually did. Shame - it's the only voice you've got and you should use it.

You mean the turnout?

Trinity and St.Mary's were not contested

District Council

Chadwell 30.7%

Yes, thanks Steve that is what I meant. Such a shame or is that higher than usual?

It's lower than last time Mel, significantly lower, but last time was a General Election too. Plus there's some evidence of Tories staying home because they're angry at the party nationally. But it's not wildly lower than the national average for Town and District elections. Which is sad.

Such a waste, makes me very sad. So many people around the world who do not have a free vote and how many have died in the attempt to be able to vote? I do wonder if some time in the future the government of the day will turn round and say that as not enough people are voting we will suspend the elections. Remember the film Minority Report with Tom Cruise - that is creeping ever closer to real life, if it hasn't already arrived.

I made the effort to vote, it was around 6 pm and I was number 135. If you don't vote, you have no right to complain at the outcome. If you don't want to vote for any person or party, spoil your ballot paper, it is still counted.
