Some of you seem to be under the impression that the Drill Hall is under used. I've no idea why you think that; just look at the What's On section of the home page or the Drill Hall section and you will see a different story. Not all events get published as they are private functions or are closed to certain groups ie the college.

The Drill Hall admin have occasionally put bookings in the way of WAC where said Drill Hall is already booked and there are times when people have booked with the Drill Hall because WAC wasn't big enough.

I can't see anything wrong with extending WAC to incorporate the old Wagger's section but you would need someone full time to administrate it. Form a Steering Committee and approach EHC with a proposal that will stop them selling the place off to the highest bidder.

There is some suggestion that one be formed. Did you not notice?
We're in the process of trying to gauge interest to see if anyone wants to form a steering committee.

Maybe - but I stand by my request. A positive attitude promotes positive ideas.

Waggers is gone and the "pub" idea failed - it would be foolish to replicate it.

A positive idea - pop-up market stalls / small workshops for short term lease.
Partition the downstairs into small rentable stalls that can be used as a mini-indoor market with small workshops to encourage new business.
Small cafe to service the area and encourage footfall. Work with Business Link.

EHDC Storage area - a Microbrewery. Imagine Ware having it's own brewery again. Involve Ware Wine and Beer Circle.

Upstairs Function rooms - functions, practice music, small theatre, Theatre workshops, dance, live music, venue for live acoustic nights, Media studio for kids. add more etc etc

No. I've not done market research. Should that be done now before a group exists? Of course not.
This would be done by a steering committee if one emerges.

Thank you MB1, Damien & Littlejon. Anyone else prepared to throw some ideas around, face to face (over a pint) ?

Which is why I asked. To the casual observer, it doesn't seem that busy - but then the casual observer tends to notice only the big headline events and not the routine regular use.

Probably - but it always felt like Ware's unknown pub. I never worked out how it kept going as long as it did!

Brilliant idea! And an interesting idea to attempt to commercialise the Wine & Beer Circle.

I may have missed it but count me in.

Happy to. Craig - are you acting as organiser in chief? Maybe we can get a group message out and propose some times?

Another good model to look at is The Corn Exchange in Hertford.

Has anyone thought of re-siting the Museum in the South Maltings? It could prove a lovely welcome to the town as visitors park in Kibes Lane, they could visit the Museum and learn about what was the biggest maltings town in the country. The existing Museum could be sold to help fund the move and many more exhibits could be on display - even room for that rather large bed without taking the roof off! There would probably even be room for a 'community' room where parties, meetings, etc., could still take place.

The museum would only have to find:-

£1M
The additional running costs.
The cost of transporting the exhibits, preparing and displaying more items.
The additional volunteer stewards needed.

I doubt they own the Lodge but are you really suggesting we sell off one of the towns Grade 2 assets to a developer?

As for the bed, I doubt it will come back but, in any case, the museum was designed specifically so the bed could come in through the roof.

The town already has too many meeting venues - that's why there are all the complaints about FLea
