Any enclosed dog walking areas suitable for lurchers around?

Post by RichardH »

We've recently adopted a rescue lurcher (saluki x), and wondered if anyone knows of any suitable enclosed areas where we can let her off the lead safely?

Any other lurcher/greyhound/whippet owners around fancy meeting up for walks at all? Ours is a little shy but is both people and dog friendly, so it would be good for her to meet a few more dogs.

Presdales Field is enclosed and is a great place to let your dog run free.

Even better, at the moment there's no football so every Monday the place isn't covered in litter.

RichardH, we are up Presdales field (Post Wood) most days and most people and dogs are very friendly. We have two Greyhounds, so happy to meet up there with your new Saluki. Great place to have a run, and there are the woods behind the field too. (Although, part of these woods are not enclosed).

Thanks - we'll go over there and keep her on lead first time round to get an idea of the area, then see if we can arrange to meet up there one day. Ours is a little shy of new things (she's a rescue), but will be nice to get her meeting some new dogs.

We popped up there one evening last week - great! Though our springer was very interested in going into the woods, we stayed in the field.

VicarageRoader - when are you usually up there? Would be great to meet up and let Rosie have a run with something that can keep up with her!

It all depends on our working hours.

Most days its between 11am & 1pm and then a couple of evenings a week after 7pm.

Btw, please be aware that the car park is locked every evening at 7pm so if you think you'll be a bit later you have to park in the lane.

There was a spate a while back of people getting parking tickets but that seems to have died a death.

If you try presdales and it doesn't suit, try Lozza's lurcher rescue (Google!) who, I understand, has an enclosed field she rents out so people can run their dogs without them escaping.

This is correct. We've been there (its near Newgate Street) and its good.

Yes, we know about Lozza's - have chatted to her on the phone, but not been down there yet.

Looks like there will be a temporary lurcher-y addition to the pack (we are going to foster a rescue lurcher while a permanent home is found for him), so we'll have two long legged loonies to take there :)
