Ware Cricket Club

Post by Rizzo »

Now the league fixtures have been announced it is time for us to get ready for the season.

Indoor nets start tonight at Glaxos and will run every Sunday with the Juniors on from 6pm and the adults at 7pm. Everyone welcome to join in. We also run a junior side and an adult side in an indoor league near to Sawbridgeworth.

Next social event is a quiz on Friday 7th February from 7pm at Glaxo (thanks for their hospitality).

Outdoor season starts with a few friendly fixtures in April and then from May we play league cricket at our beautiful home ground 10 minutes drive down the road in Widford. We have two sides playing in the league on saturdays and a side playing friendlies against local sides on Sunday. The juniors have practice sessions on saturday mornings and play mideweek games.

Everyone is trying to play themselves in to our side for when we take on the celebrity charity team the Bunburys who will again vist us on the 14th July, lets hope for better weather this year!

We are a few weeks in to the season and despite some games being called off due to the weather there have been some entertaining games home and away and we have some victories under our belt. Weather looking a bit more cheery this weekend so fingers crossed we can get three games in.

Please note that the Bunbury celebrity game is on Sunday 13th July and are hopeful that there will be the same players from last year with potentially the addition of England player Steven Finn.

It is September and it is the end of the season for the cricket club, we have just our Chairmans game and then our mini tour to the Isle of Wight to play a charity game for the local hospice. A decent season for us, after some turmoil over the last couple of seasons we have become more stable (financially and membership) and after a double relegation for both of our sides last year, both the 1st and 2nd teams finished mid table and in the process won as many games as we lost. The Sunday team have also had a decent season with many a good game and the future is bright with our Junior section with the under 14's finishing mid table and the under 11's just missing out on finals day by ending up second in their league. Thanks to all our sponsors and supporters. Highlights of the season was our celebrity charity match and the very successful summer camp for the kids - winter approaches but please note that we are still on the lookout for players!
