Hertford RFC v Barnes RFC result

Post by Andy B »

The first game of 2014, Happy New Year, and a home one at that.
We are now into the replays of the earlier games in the season and the away gave to Barnes was an away win for Hertford 34 - 29 which is close enough to hope the improvement in the side will show with a more convincing win.

Kick off 3 pm.

With forecast for heavy rain the weatherman did not disappoint!
Four matches in this league were postponed so for this match to get underway was an achievement for the grounds staff.
After five minutes Barnes receive a penalty which is missed as the kicker slips then the minutes pass by till in the thirtieth minute Hertford put a score on the board with a penalty, 3 - 0. two subs are used due to injuries in the terrible conditions and half time arrives with Hertford 3 - 0 up and no sign of the rain stopping. After fifty one minutes another penalty for Hertford, 6 - 0, and on fifty seven minutes the first try of the match to Dan Belton which was converted, 13 - 0. On sixty one minutes the floodgates have opened, pun intended, and a debut try for Alex Bendin which was also converted, 20 - 0. On sixty six minutes Alex gets the double which again is converted, 27 - -0. In the final minutes a push for the bonus point is unsuccessful and the final score of 27 - 0 indicates the side are improving. The league table will now become a little disjointed until the postponed games are played but Hertford move up to seventh. Surprise of the week was Guernsey beating Dorking 8 - 6 which can be due to the weather or maybe they did not travel well?
