OK, I'll bite...

Let's bring seconds into this. (bear with me.)

7:01 and 1 second until 8:01 and 59 seconds is 60 minutes and 58 seconds.

If you bring 10ths of seconds into it we get
7:01:00:01 to 8:01:59.9 = 60 minutes, 59.8 seconds.

Straying into calculus territory and travelling towards the limit of the absolute times 7:01:00.00000... to 8:01:59.99999... You get 61 minutes.

So if you include both the minute 7:01 and the minute 8:01, you have 61 minutes.

To address how many trains per hour this is, consider more hours

7:01 to 8:01 - 1 hour, 1 minute = 2 trains.
7:01 to 9:01 - 2 hours, 1 minutes = 3 trains
7:01 to 10:01 - 3 hours, 1 minure = 4 trains
7:01 to 11:01 - 4 hours, 1 minute = 5 trains
7:01 to 7:01 (+24) - 24 hours, 1 minute = 25 trains.

This is not 25 trains a day (otherwise you would expect 25 * 7 trains per week = 175
You actually only have 24 * 7 = 168. You'll get 169 if you include the one at the start of the next week - but you can't double count it.

If you include the 8:01 train 2 trains per hour, you can't include it in the next hour.

So you might thing 7:01 to 8:01 = 2 trains, 2 trains per hour. (7:01 & 8:01)
But you would then get 8:01 to 9:01 = 1 train, 1 train per hour. (9:01)

The frequency of the trains has not altered, so one of those conclusions must be wrong.

So in any given period, If you include the one at the start of the next period you'll get an extra train.

OK. I'll stop now, because it you don't understand that, you probably think you have 2 birthday's a year.

Taken from the correspondence above,

Quote:
If you bring 10ths of seconds into it we get
7:01:00:01 to 8:01:59.9 = 60 minutes, 59.8 seconds.
End Quote:

Looks like you have gone to 100ths of a second.
Do you mean
7:01:00:0 to 8:01:59.9

Could cause some confusion otherwise,

Well no, but I don't mean what I wrote either.

It should read 7:01:00.1 to 8:01:59.9

I'd hate to add to the confusion

I genuinely laughed at the life this has taken on since my (innocent) comment that it isn't currently 3 trains an hour. I also think the greatest argument was just the one who (bless em) listed out every minute between 7.01 and 8.01.

This is great. It's like a 'spotted in Ware' debate but with correct spelling and no swearing!
