Need to move a bumblebee nest

Post by mb1 »

We have a bumblebee nest right outside our back door, so we need to move it. It is buried into earth under some steps and might be hard to move. Does anyone on here have experience of moving such nests or know anyone else who might?

The main reason is that our dog finds the bees very exciting and is already catching a couple a day, we're worried about him; and also our youngest is terrified to go out into the back garden.

I really don't want to hurt the nest at all since bees are so threatened, but moving it would be nice.

You have probably already researched this but if you haven't here are some links

I had the problem a few years back by my front door in a wall. Fortunately , they moved them selves on without any help

Yes, thanks, my sister had pointed me at that site. We fall into the 'difficult to move' category and they recommend someone with experience do it. Sadly, they don't list beekeepers or people who move nests.

Mr Dalby 01992 622645, Mr Lewis 01279 651002 & Mr Wilcox 01920 465092.

EHDC gave me these names a few years ago so they may be worth a try? Good luck. Whether they are still operating I can't say or even if they can help.
