Ware and Boxing day?

Post by cchallis »

Does Ware have any boxing day tradition?, like Waltham cross bakers and sweeper football game, or widford hockey match?, if not maybe we could start one next year?

Well volunteered! What are you going to arrange?
How many years will it have to be going for before it can be called a tradition? Are there other criteria that have to be met for it to be so called?

I've always though a soapbox car race would be good fun.
A timed race down the length of Crib Street (or some other suitable long stretch of road) that isn't too busy.
You've got 364 days to build your carts...

That sounds like a fun. And since all the shops are closed on Boxing Day, even Tesco, it could be a stretch of the High Street, or a circuit round the Church Street and the High Street.

Like the soap box derby idea, it needs to be a hill, with a few chicanes etc, like red bull races.

That sort of thing would need serious insurance.

Try 'what's the longest hill in Ware with a RUNOFF AREA', I assume you have never been to a Redbull Soapbox Race, the organisation, track building (LOTS of bales of hay to contain the participants and minimise damage/injury) is something that takes a large team a long time to create and yes they have to have insurance in place to cover injury and damage to both participants (at least two were hospitalised due to injury at Alexandra Palace earlier this year) and spectators. Get real this is a non starter.
