Sainsburys & Dominos Star Street Deliveries

Post by Itsme »

When EHDC gave planning consent to these premises, why did they not place a condition that deliveries should be made OUTSIDE of rush hour times? The traffic chaos caused by their lorries during these times is ridiculous.

They did, deliveries to Sainsbury are to take place between 22.00 and 0700 and between 10.00 and 15.00

There was a delivery to Sainsbury's at about 13:00 on Saturday. Not a good idea. The High Street/Viaduct Road area was busy anyway, partly due to the level crossing being closed.

Hmm, not sure they the level crossing being closed would make the area "more busy"?

A little more traffic on Viaduct Road, balanced out by less on Amwell End, maybe, but surely no difference on the High Street.

When I went through the other day the traffic was tailed back along the road to Van Hages out of sight, and to the bottom of Hoe Lane coming from Hertford. It made getting into Ware much more difficult than usual, but once into that stream of traffic and the High Street it didn;t make any difference.

I recently contacted EHDC in regard to the situation here
There is a restricted parking time period sign in place along with a single yellow line
Every day around 8.30 am Dominos have a HGV park up outside their entrance .This virtually in line with the solid traffic island which requires any traffic attempting to enter Star street from the High Street to move over into the lane of traffic coming from the opposite direction
There are also school children attempting to get across where it is only a matter of time before there is an accident there
The designated bus stop is frequently taken up by other HGV making deliveries to Sainsbury's where when the bus arrives it is required to block the entire lane to allow passengers on /off
Anyone trying to exit from the small car park takes a real chance in having to proceed far out in the road hoping there is not a car overtaking the stationary HGV
EDHC response was that regardless of a time restriction in place delivery vehicles are permitted to ignore the restriction to load/unload for a reasonable time period
An email to the relevant Ware Councelor outlining the situation went unanswered

They will probably say it is now a traffic issue rather than a planning one, and direct you to the local police.

You are all being totally unreasonable - it's not as if any of this could have been foreseen when planning permission was sought.

If EHDC are of the view that this is ok, what was the point of the planning restriction?
