I'm referring to the adjacent undeveloped greenfield land that they own, which is where I suspect they're looking to capitalise.Littlejon wrote:If there's a significant enough economic benefit... it doesn't matter how the land is designated. Currently, they have lots of car parking. Change that to a big multi-storey, including lots of below ground space and there's effectively no change to the use at all.

Re: Waitrose
I'd love to be Van Hage's Accountant as I don't know how they make a profit! that's not a hint but I think it's such a great place, it's like 'garden porn' for me to walk around there looking at £13k garden seating arrangements dreaming that I could fit that stuff in my semi detached, who can afford these things? I go there, look at the animals, let the kids ride the railway and buy the odd bedding plants and the perennial, they can't make much profit out of me.
Re: Waitrose
The Deloitte report in their last group accounts might tell you everything you need to know....
Re: Waitrose
A combined Waitrose and smaller Van Hages would be a perfect combination. Fantastic news.
Re: Waitrose
A John Lewis might be a useful addition too.
Re: Waitrose
Maybe they should have put Asda there, that would bring in the punters.
Re: Waitrose
Would have thought Asda and Van Hage wouldn't make good bedfellows as their target markets are different.

I'm not sure how a supermarket, which everyone will have to drive to, built on green belt land, where one already exists in the next door town, can be described as great news.
I'm interested to know why anyone wants another supermarket with Tesco, ASDA and Sainsburys local being available by mid 2015. Would a Waitrose there really add anything as Hertford is nearly as close and therefore already offers an option ?

Roll forward 5 years, 10,000 new people in the new town with the new houses, 3 supermarkets, traffic clogged up by van hage and watton road. We're just be another characterless town....
